There’s No Place Like Home
(St. Louis, MO-Feb 15, 2015) On a cool, snowy morning last week Rainbow Village achieved the much anticipated milestone of purchasing its 75th home in the Greater St. Louis Metropolitan region! Rainbow Village is the only local non-profit that focuses solely on providing safe, affordable and accessible housing to individuals with developmental disabilities.
“We’ve successfully purchased and modified 19 houses in the past 24 months, provided forever homes for an additional 60 individuals in the St. Louis Community,” said Michael Rea, Executive Director of Rainbow Village.
The 75th house is a one story, 3 bedroom, 2 bath home that will be modified for full accessibility with widened doorways, a roll in shower, and wheelchair accessible ramps. With continuous monitoring, modifications can be made as the men age so they can live in the house long-term. In about 90 days from now, the three residents will have a place in the community, and a home they can call their own.
“Having 75 Rainbow Village Homes is a benchmark we are extremely proud of.” says Rea. “But more importantly, we are helping even more people with developmental disabilities lead safe, independent lives-one home at a time.”
