How We Serve

Dear Friends,

As a specialty housing provider for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), Promise Community Homes (PCH) is a unique nonprofit with a deeply focused and niche mission. While many nonprofits center their work around easily recognizable programs, our impact often looks different—and may not always be as immediately visible.

PCH provides lifelong homes—accessible and customized—for nearly 300 adults with IDD in more than 80 houses across St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Jefferson County, and the city of St. Louis.

Through our comprehensive housing programming and our fully accessible community center, we proudly serve thousands of individuals of all ages and abilities each year.

Because our mission centers on something as essential—and complex—as housing, the scope of what we do can be hard to capture at a glance. That’s why we’re committed to greater transparency and clearer communication.

Whether you're new to PCH or a long-time friend, a donor, volunteer, event attendee, caregiver, or advocate, we want to ensure you understand the full impact of your support.

Thank you for being part of this work and helping us keep the promise of home—explored in the five essential parts below.

Warmly,
Matt Elmore
Executive Director

RESIDE

RESIDE stands for Residential Environments for Social Inclusion & Disability Empowerment, and is our largest program that enables us to provide safe, affordable, and stable accommodations.

With extremely low income, PCH residents cannot afford a home of their own. Our organization takes on the mortgage, insurance, and other basic home administrative costs without passing this fiscal burden on to our residents. RESIDE bridges a financial gap, keeping homes affordable and ensuring our residents are secure. This imperative program helps decrease housing insecurities, promote dignity, and increase socialization and independence.

HOMES

HOMES denotes Houses Optimizing Medical & Emotional Stability. This program supports ongoing maintenance and planned repairs that enhance our residents' quality of life.

HOMES allows PCH to complete maintenance and repair projects at no cost to our residents, and ensures all residents have a high-quality, healthy, forever home.

AVENUES FOR AGING

Avenues for Aging makes it possible to renovate homes so each unique resident can age in place with comfort and grace.

Avenues for Aging guarantees necessary renovations, like:
• New flooring to ensure ease-of-use for wheelchairs & walkers
• Roll-in showers promoting independence and dignity
• Entry ramps that allow residents to safely enter and exit their home

EMERGENCY REPAIRS

Emergency Repairs encompass any service to correct unexpected mishaps that come with owning a home, such as needing a new roof after a storm, fixing a deck and tree removal after a tree has fallen, or replacing an AC unit that breaks during the height of summer.

COMMUNITY CENTER

Our Community Center is an accessible, inclusive resource for social and physical activities with a gym, heated therapeutic indoor pool, and meeting spaces. Many community members utilize our center for physical therapy, classes, events, camps, dances, and parties. As a fully accessible polling location for St. Louis County, 4,591 ballots were cast in 2024 alone!
